The Free File Program is a partnership between the Internal Revenue Service and tax preparation software companies that provices millions of people access to brand name software, such as Turbotax, TaxAct, H&R Block, etc., so they can prepare and securely file their taxes at no cost. Minnesota also is one of 20 states that have formed state Free File programs. In general, people earning $62,000 or less are eligible. For Federal tax, visit www.irs.gov/freefile. If you do not have a computer or need additional help, during tax season, in communities across the country, IRS-certified tax experts are available to assist eligible taxpayers self- prepare and file their taxes using Free File. Taxpayers can receive this free, in-person assistance with Free File by visiting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. These sites are usually located in community or neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls and other convenient locations. Visit For specific locations, visit www.TaxPrepHelp.org .
